East Rockaway is located on the South Shore of Long Island, about 30 minutes from JFK Airport. Three different LIRR stations serve the East Rockaway Community – Lynbrook, Centre Avenue (East Rockaway) and Oceanside.

East Rockaway is an Incorporated Village with its own elected officials.

The community is home to Bay Park a 96-acre town park. The park has 2 tennis courts, lighted basketball courts, ball fields, outdoor roller rink, picnic area, large playground. It also has a 9 hole golf course and a year round fishing and boating dock..

East Rockaway is serviced by both Lynbrook School District 20 and East Rockaway School District 19.

It is bordered by Hewlett, Oceanside and Lynbrook. In the center of town on Main Street is a small shopping district,
