Check the mailbox for any signs of rust. Use the wire brush to remove the rust from the metal. Wipe away the metal shavings with a rag and clean the mailbox again as you did previously. Apply painter’s tape to the flag. When you paint metal mailbox you need to be able to have a surface that that allows the paint to adhere to the metal.
